Hey Roxxy,

You lettin' that Hubby near the car again? I thought I told you......Nah! Won't go there!

I'm no autobox Specialist but I've built a few in the past, each one has been the same, when new, the clutches etc all have right angle corners on them (As New) so although they all fit together there still is a certain roughness until they bed in, These edges eventually wear off causing the box to smooth out as it gets older. There are certain rules to follow here as well....

1/ Make Sure that after 1k miles that the place that rebuilt the box takes it back to check and replace the oils/Filter.

2/ Always get the box serviced as it prolongs the life of the box. The pressures in the box can be adjusted, ask the place that rebuilt the box to check these and reset them. Email Kirt Koeller, he's the auto box Specialist, in fact, it may pay to make a visit if he's local or ask if he can make the visit to you.

I replaced the Box in my Father's Jetta and after the car had only done 500 miles, my mechanic said that the box was on it's way out, as he'd found filings in the filter. Naturally I panicked, ended up taking it to the resident Autobox Specialist who's been around for 40 years, he cleaned it out, changed the oils/Filter and reset it, It drove like new, Smooth shifted the lot!! the car was sold with 30k done on the box and the girl that bought it loves it, and it's still running today!! Just as well I didn't follow my Mechy's advice Eh?

Contact Kirt, He's the man!!!!

Good luck.

recent tranny rebuild, hubby picked the mech shop, and it shifts fine, like new but just not like it did. I know i cannot trust the shop that did it and it is running fine just not a smooth and sharp as it was before. My mech checked it and says there isnt anything he could complain about, and i trust his word.
There isnt any set ratios for the tranny then i guess no way to know why it dosnt 'feel' right. It just feels like the ford aerostar-(garaged my baby 'till winter is gone)

Thanks,
Roxxy
