Very unlikely that both or any DME is defective. My car will run on one bank, but behave as you describe on the other bank. Otherwise, it runs great. I suggest you determine which bank is not running and then start swapping parts to see if you can get the problem to switch sides. Do not forget to check the fuel pump(s).

On Christmas Eve my 750IL sputtered and died at an intersection light. I cranked on the starter to restart several times, but the car would only sputter and die. If I stepped on the gas it would seem to bog-down. If you cranked for a longer time, and stepped on the accelerator, the car would actually rev like normal.
No "check engine" or EML lights came on etc.

I disconnected the battery for a day to see if that would d anything, but there was no difference.

I had it towed to my mechanic. He did a few preliminary checks and determined the right back was not firing. He said it might be the coil or distributor cap etc.

Today, he called to inform me that BOTH the Engine Control Modules are defective. The right one doesn't work at all, and the left one if very weak.

I know this is possible, but how probably is it for BOTH of the modules to go out at the same time?

Has anyone had experience with this type of problem? Was there another cause I could look into? Just seems odd the car was running fine and that the ECM light never came on.

Any information and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris
