What's the question; if it was a $500 beater car I can see the sense of trying to save five or six bucks. I've ALWAYS used BMW coolant and have never had a coolant related engine problem in any of the 4 BMW's I've owned during the past 15 years. And, when I've taken the cooling systems apart to replace a thermostat or hose there never was a trace of any slimy build up or corrosion. I believe it has everything to do with the additives and chemical make-up of the BMW formulated coolant/antifreeze.

One last note - in today's engines and the collection of dissimilar metals and plastics that are invloved - using plain water is a short trip to disaster. In fact, I use distilled water when I mix up the 50/50. Tap water could contain additional chemicals doctors and lawyers think are good for us aren't necessarily great for the guts of a car engine.

Hi all,
A friend has a 90 735i, IN which he doesn't use any coolant!!!!, he says use Coolant only for 3 months in the fall, and drain in late winter and the next 9 Month month with only water!!!!.
I told him he should not do this, since I have always use the BMW coolant IN MY 735I-88!!. He says it is nonesense, he uses standard cheap antifreeze coolant. His car really runs very nice.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOU THIS??
