Hey! I have an 88 735i. It's definitely a bulb. The replacement of it may or may not be simple. If you can drop your steering column a few inches by removing two bolts from a saddle underneath, you can remove the cluster out the front and replace the bulbs. I have heard that right around your year they changed the configuration and you may not be able to drop the column. If that's the case it means you will have to remove your steering wheel and airbag which I understand is a huge pain. Good luck!

The other day the gear indicator display went out. Under the right ambient lighting conditions I can see the "E" and the "D" (or "S" and "3") – so I know that it still works, it just wont illuminate. Is there a bulb to replace (please say yes) or is the board bad? The center OBC display works fine by the way. How can I fix this?

Thanks a bunch guys
