You can't just drain the entire system and replace in on shot (unless you disconnect one of the cooler lines going to the radiator and let the tranny blow all the fluid out... not recommended). You only have access via the oil pan to about 3 - 4 quarts of fluid. The rest is in the torque converter and the cooler.

The procedure I have had good luck with is to drain the fluid and replace it with 50/50 trans x tranny cleaner and mercon V synthetic fluid... I've used castrol, but that was just what was handy... I have no information that says castrol is better or worse than other brands... run for 500 miles and drain. Change filter. Refill with the same mercon V synthetic fluid per mfg instructions. Run for 1K miles and drain and refill again. Done. I tend to cycle my fluid with one change every year or about 12k miles afterward and have never had a tranny problem.

Regarding the seat... search the archives... the procedure is there.

I have read several posts and archive threads on transmission fluid changes. I have noted that to change the fluid takes several drain/fill cycles. Most seem to agree that synthetic is best. What brand and where can I get it? I also assume that to change completly the fluid I will need 16-20 quarts? Is this correct? Second question: How do I remove the rear seat to access the battery and relays (my rear defroster doesn't work)

Thanks in advance
