It's definitely just the bulb. Had this exact failure on my 94 740iL. Dealer charged $2 for bulb and $90 for 1 hr labor. I thought it was a rip-off at the time but according to the Bentley manual they show removing the steering wheel and air bag. The labor charge is therefore probably not out of line.

The other day the gear indicator display went out. Under the right ambient lighting conditions I can see the "E" and the "D" (or "S" and "3") – so I know that it still works, it just wont illuminate. Is there a bulb to replace (please say yes) or is the board bad? The center OBC display works fine by the way. How can I fix this?

Thanks a bunch guys
