Removed the alternator to have a local rebuild shop replace the bearings. In all my excitement, I managed to break the small wire in half. Looking down into the engine compartment, I didn't relish the thought of trying to splice in a new section of cable. Then I noticed that if I disconnected the oxygen sensor plug, two other sensors, one cable from the starter, and removed two bracket mounting bolts, I could completely remove the wiring harness for the alternator. Repairing the broken wire on the kitchen table (wife is out of town this weekend) was a WHOLE lot simpler than ferreting around in the engine compartment.
