It sounds like you may have 2 separate issues. The first is figuring out which wires to connect the deck speaker leads to. Hopefully I have explanined in the following. The second is that there is a separate audio amp in the trunk that must be turned on. The wires from the fader switch do not go directly to the speakers, they are the input to the factory amp. The white wire from the factory deck is the amp turn-on lead and should be connected to a switch 12 source as detailed below as well.
I originally tried to use the Pre outs on the Nak but they didn't have enough drive so I had to use the speaker outputs. Not sure how your factory wire come off the deck. On mine there were 2 set wires ( blue and yellow ) that came out of the deck and the solid one of each color went to the factory fader switch on the dash. The associated color/brown of each pair went off in the harness somewhere and I never did figure out what they were used for ( ground I think). Anyway, the wires you what to use are the four output wires coming off the fader switch. They are the same color as the solid one coming into it from the stock headunit. Typically, they are on either side of the solid wire. You may have to do some playing around to figure out which one is front, back, right, left etc.
On the fader the other 2 wires there, brown (gnd) and grey/red are for interior lighting.
I cut the wires at the fader unit and spliced my +ve speaker leads to them. The -ve speaker leads were not used. Make sure that the chassis of the deck is grounded to the original brown ground wire.
The remote amp turn on wire is the white wire. Wire this to your new remote turn on lead. This turns on the remote amp as well as the remote antenna amplifier so you do not have to use the new headunit power antenna lead. One thing to watch for here is the current draw. On my deck, the remote lead voltage was being dragged down to around 9 VDC during operation. While it did turn the amp on, it means the Headunit is not capable of supplying enough current. In the short term, it is no big deal, however in the long term I would be concerned about premature amp failure. I addressed this by hooking the white remote turn on wire to the switched +12vdc connection for the time being. I plan to install a relay in order to use the correct lead of the new head unit in the future.
Hope this makes some sense and helps a bit.
I am trying to install a Jensen cd player in my 88 735i.
I cannot get ANYHTHING to come out of ANY speakers.
I have tried everything I can think of.
I took a speaker out and put the wires from the cd player to the speaker directly and got sound, so I know the speakers are good.
And does anyone know hat the little knob to the right of the steering column with an icon of a speaker about and below it means?
I'm stumped.
Anybody put an aftermarket unit into thier BMW? any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance
