Seem to be losing oil (archive)

How much engine oil are you consuming?

When we got the 750iL about 8months ago, I noticed that it was consuming more oil than our 325e (which doesn't lose oil at all). About 1quart/2000M. The mechanic said that according to BMW, it is okay if it consumes 1quart/1400M. And since this is a v-12...

There doesn't seem to be any leak. If this is unusual, what could be the problem? Hoping it isn't a sign of the engine being ready to fail.
