good suggestions. the trouble is that the previous owner had installed sensors that are the same (both black plug-ins, so I cannot tell which one goes where.

There are no left and right sensor. They are the same part numbers just make sure you connect them to the correct connector on the body mixing them up will give the wrong info to the worng computer and then will lead it to mis manage the worng fuel mix and electircal info to the wrong bank of cylinders, my advise would be to take one out and replace it and thn start on the next so that you do not get them confused.
