I actually got the shims from my independent after he got tired of hearing me complain about squeaks. Not sure where he got them, but he had a few sets... gave them to me for nothing... (actuallly it was probably just an advance on my next trip to the shop I'm sure!)I notice that Pagid, ATE, Texar and Jurid pads have what appears to be an integral shim on the back of the pad. PBR pads do not have this "integral" shim.

Kevin: The last half dozen sets of pads I've bought for both my E32 and E23, over the last few years, did not come with backing shims. I think they were all PBR Deluxe, except one, which was Raybestos. I've also had too much squealing, particularly on the rear brakes, despite using the ant-squeal compound. In desparation, had to make my own shims to control it. That's not really acceptable to me. So, I'd be curious to learn what pad manufacturers now send pads with the backup shims already attached.
