Sounds great for a 91!, I hope you can find someone who could give you 500 bucks for the whole car!
I'm very happy for you that you were able to repaint your valve covers for $5. I considered just repainting the valve covers, but I wanted to do something a little nicer. So, I spent a little extra money and had them powder coated. That was $55 per valve cover. I won't ever have to worry about repainting the valve covers on this car. I spent another $85 per part on the intake manifolds. That is a total of $280 I spent on powder coating those four parts. As far as how they turned out, I feel that is worth every penny. The other $200 was for the new intake manifold cover. The engine bay now looks like I have a new engine in there. :) I was pleased how everything turned out and wanted to share with other people on the board who might be interested in doing the same thing. If you saw the before and after pictures of my engine bay, I don't think you would say you could have done the same quality of work for $5.
Sorry to tell you that I have done the valve cover bit also but I spent only $5 bucks on a can of flat black paint, then I took an air driven high speed metal polishing wheel to the badge and fins and it looks just like the factory M5 cover.
$500? Geezz ...
