when I first got my E32 last winter, there was all this white smoke and I was immediately worried. A head gasket replacement on a V-12 wasn't in my budget!! Then I kept seeing a fiar amount of posts about the high amount of water vapor these BMW engines produce, especially the V-12. That really reassured my wallet. My antifreeze is nice and green, and my oil is not the least bit frothy, so I don't worry anymore.

I saw some postings about this white smoke coming out of the muffler, but i couldn't get to any conclusion.

My car smokes sometimes when it is colder .. ( not OIL burning!!!) that's pure vapor. but sometimes it smokes sooo much !!! but so much, well, after a while driving it stops.
but i was just wondering if it's normal... my coolant level is stable , oil level the same. muffler .. hum, getting old, maybe time to replace it. anything to worry about ??
thank you guys !

I also beieve that it is a common phenomenon on Bimmers and is related to temperature and humidity. My 1988 750 smokes when cold or extremely humid conditions occur and after 104,000 miles on the engine and obsrving other Bimmers doing the same thing, I just said "Hey, another Quirk".
