I'd guess the sealing foam is dead (archive)

Hi Pietro... the stepper motors do make a weird buzzing sound, but I;d guess the new bang is the flap closing as usual - juts now the sealing foam around it's edge has died and so there's no padding for that final close-tight stage.

I have a 92 735il with 70000. When I turn the climate control fan off or on I can hear an intermittant buzzing noise coming from the dash. The noise just goes away. But I can now really hear the vent doors open and slam closed.
