I've got the same symptoms and haven't yet torn the door apart but I suspect the worm gear teeth are worn down. It's a shame that it sounds like the only way to fix it is to replace the motor. Seems like there should be a way to just replace the busted gear. I'll keep looking for an answer and whoever finds one first, let the rest of us know, please!
