Johan,
the male and female plugs are for the servotronis unit. If you look above the speaker area you should fing two small nut heads. I think they are 8mm. Into the hole there those to screws hold a black member (thin and very light) that hold the servotronic unit. It will be blue if it is there. Someone disconnected it because it stopped working. They may have removed it too. You will probably have to replace that unit if you want the power assisted variable speed asiist to work. If you are happy with full time power steering, then leave things the way they are. Cost of servotronic is about 250.00. Junk yard about 50.00. After maerket, 125.00 t0 175.00.
There is way to fix yourself possibly. We'll get that if it is there.

Thanks !
I just went to check the schematics for the servotronic unit on www.e34.de, And the wire colors apear to match.

What other components should a servotronic equiped car have ?

The color of the wires are:

on plug one (female) brown, green/white, black/white.

on plug two (male) red/black with yellow dots and black/white with yellow dots.

I can connect the two plugs to each other, then brown connects to black/white with yellow dots and black/white connects to red/black with yellow dots.

I may be able to help. I need to know what color the wires are. I think that you may be missing your power steering control box. Better know as the Servotronic" unit. I'm not sure about this, just a hunch. Also, what does the connector"s" look like. Will wait for your reply.
DavidG.
While working on my car today I found 2 round(male and female) yellow plugs inside the leftside footwell, behind the speaker. There are three wires on one end, and two on the other. When I connect the two nothing seems to happen.

Does anybody know what these plugs control ??

Thanks !
