If you do go to someone to get it flashed back to 0. could you ask the number of the chip ?

Quite funny however that some of them go the extra 40 km to 300 000 and some (including mine) stays stuck at 299 960.

----Thanks for the idea. I'm not sure about where to find the "advanced electronic" shop here in California, but you give me confidence that I can at least clear the memory to zero. One problem that will come up here in this state is that when they do the smog check and enter almost 0 miles into the state records, the odometer police will come after me!
P.S. I'll try to post the identity of the memory chip

Remove the plug and take it to an advanced electronics shop. They can flash it back to zero and you can drive another 300K miles on it :-)

original ('87 735i) dash stuck at 299960km :-)
MAybe I should have this fixed one of these days :-)
