Insert the jumper wire with the ignition off. Then turn the key on. wait for 10-12 seconds and then remove the wire with the key still on. Then turn off the key. Lights will be reset.

Does the key need to be on? At what point do you have to let 10 seconds pass? Do you leave the jumper wire in the socket for 10 seconds?

I went into the archives and found someone who reset the lights by shorting between connectors, and found out how to reset my lights myself on my 88 750IL. Shorting (and it actually doesn't short) between pin 7 and pin 11 reset my inspection light and oil change light and colors. pin 7 and pin 19 reset the oil change itself. remember to let about 10 seconds pass.
