Richard, for some reason I thought I was dealing with another v engine problem. The straingt six is a different situation, so ignore my earlier posting. An bad air leak could cause the problem you mention. The (about) 1 inch dia x 5 inch long hose in the middle side of the rocker cover often splits and can give rise to some of the faults you mention.

See my post a few down. The 740 that the PCV valve was changed on also idled badly. Changing the valve made it run smooth and problem free.

1990 735IL. Trans Program message on startup, check engine light is on and engine idling very roughly. Owners manual suggest 'electronic shift control failure'. Does this meantransmission job or just replacing a module and if so where is it located.
