Rear axle carrier bushing (archive)

Another problem. While checking the speed sensor on the differential (intermittent speedometer), I noticed that the rear axle carrier bushing on the passenger's side had backed out of the carrier by about 1/4 inch. I disconnected the axle carrier and pulled the bushing back in. But, when I lowered the car, the bushing backed out again. Five or six attempts later with jack stands and floor jacks placed in various locations, I managed to tighten everything back up again and lower the car to the ground with the bushing in its correct position. Took the car for a test drive and when I returned yes, you guessed, the bushing had backed itself out again. At least the distance is consistent, always 1/4 inch or about the length of the rubber "ears" on the top of the bushing. I replaced the original bushings about a year ago. Anyone have any ideas?

Alex
