dead transmission... I think (archive)

hey, I'm having a bunch of trouble with my 735i... yesterday I was driving, and when I was stopped at a light I accidentally bumped the car into neutral, and didn't notice it. When the light turned green, I hit the gas, realized I was in neutral, and shifted into drive... with the revs already at 3K. Well, the car made a rubbing/whining noise, and smoke started coming out of the hood... now it shifts funny and it won't go into reverse. Any ideas on what it could be? and if it is the whole transmission, any idea what it would cost? all responses are appreciated.
