Information Panel Malfunctions Intermittantly (archive)

I recently purchased this BMW and the information panel does not come on all the time right away. The problem appears to be intermittant. sometimes I get it in German, and the others in English. When it does not come on the fuel and temp and tach do not work either, and then within 5 minutes of driving the temp / tach / fuel and information panel come to life.

The OD does keep correct miles even if it is not showing any miles for the first couple of miles.

Help please.
