Bentley's is a book... service manual.. If you are going to do much fixing of your car yourself, then get one ASAP. It costs half an hours labor at the dealer (~$80) and can save you thousands!! (can be found on E-bay almost any day, and are often advertised on here for sale too)
In the meantime see this link for in depth heater repair instructions. Also bookmark the Home of SBC fixes page.
Regarding your quesion about ordering parts. It depends on how urgently you need the car. The cost effective way it ti tear it down and see what you REALLY need to buy, The alternative is to buy parts now, and return what you end up not needing. I mail order my parts and have other cars, so I take a look first, then get exactly what I need. Example, I figured I needed a heater core, ordered the core. Opened it up and found the problem was the pipes and that the core was new, but some yahoo butchered the installation and made even more problems.
And you will either need to pull the steering wheel or unbolt and drop the steering column to pull the dash.. Don't know what your skill level is now, but you will be a seasoned veteran after this job for sure! :)
Good Luck!

I THINK I FOUND MY PROBLEM DRIVER SIDE UNDER DASH WHERE THE HEATER CORE PIPES GO THROUGH THE FLOOR PANEL HAS WET ANTIFREEZE THERE. DO I NEED TO BUT NEW ONES OR ARE THEY CLAMP TIGHTEN, I'M STILL GONNA PULL OUT DASH. MUST I REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TOO?
