Peter,

The letters on the shift console do not light up. You have a gear indicator light in the instrument cluster which is illuminated. The Petrol could be a number of potential sources. The fuel injection system is closed so a strong odor indicates a leak. Check the fuel lines, fuel filter connections, simple things first. Best bet is to follow your nose and see if you can locate the area of the leak. Then maybe come back on here and tell us wherabouts it is if you cannot see the cause directly.

hi folks
does anyone out there know why my 1992 BMW 735se smells strongly of petrol sometimes when it is started when engine is cold. also the lettering on my automatic gearbox does not
illuminate is it supposed to.
