I'd put money on the rubber hose supplying the fuel rail. It's got two clamps connecting it to metal lines, very near the firewall on the back of the engine. Usually they rot out after a while and the pressure of the fuel pump causes gas to leak around the clamps. sometimes you can get away with tightening the clamps in a pinch, but much better to replace the hose and both clamps. The *very* hot fire will cost a lot more than a new hose.
