The 4.0 BMW V8 engine had what some would say...a manufacturing defect...and many were replaced under an extended warranty. That is possibly a good thing. It's the ones that were'nt replaced that you should worry about.

Hello I have been thinking of buying a 7 series with one of these v8 enigens in it, But many of the cars ive seen have had thier engines replaced at 30 to 40 thousand miles. I don't quite know what to think of this since my oil burning 528 e has 170,000 on one engine. What I am trying to say is, would buying a older 740 be a good idea? If so what shood i look for. Thankyou.
