Also I chased this up from the dealer and I reached all the way up to Munich in Germany to verify that the short blocks were actually changed. I do not think it is the whole engine but just the short blocks

Luckily when I reached the person in charge of the 7-series in Dingolfung (or something like that) he told me exactly when it was changed and how many miles it had before it was changed. If you get really stuck with the people in BMW north america, let me know and I will post you the email and phone no of the person.

He takes pride in his creations (7-series) and he will be straight with you. He would also be able to pull some strings with the dealer that the car was purchased from if they have neglected to changed the nicasil blocks..

cheers

The 4.0 BMW V8 engine had what some would say...a manufacturing defect...and many were replaced under an extended warranty. That is possibly a good thing. It's the ones that were'nt replaced that you should worry about.

Paste and copy links below into a new window and read to find out what you need to know about the early V8.

Check through the archives and read down the list as other things to look for. This question gets asked just about every week.

Happy hunting...the 7 series can be addicting

Hello I have been thinking of buying a 7 series with one of these v8 enigens in it, But many of the cars ive seen have had thier engines replaced at 30 to 40 thousand miles. I don't quite know what to think of this since my oil burning 528 e has 170,000 on one engine. What I am trying to say is, would buying a older 740 be a good idea? If so what shood i look for. Thankyou.
