Did you clean the connections on the light and in the socket. A little 600 grit alway works for me. I had the same thing happen to one of my tail lights. Got pulled over twice for a bulb I had changeed twice. And had looked at half a dozen times

The parking light have to be on for the underhood light to come on.

Yeah...did that.
