According to the CDROM parts catalog 6/2000, both vehicles call out the same battery part number:

61 21 8 381 754

Capacity was listed as 84AH

FWIW, the only aftermarket battery I could find when I needed one was an interstate. IT didn't come with the correct drain tube, had to use the one with the original battery. You really do need to vent the battery, it's not "just a rule".

'88 735i 5sp w/ Interstate battery


Does anybody know if a 1990 735 il, uses the same battery as a 1990 535 i. Mine is dead on my 735 il, and the store only carry the one for the 535 i. Need to replace it urgently. Thanks a lot.
