I know exactly what your talking about.......
I ended up taking out the alternator, which involves taking out the radiator...., then you should be able to get to the bolt with a long ratchet extension. Believe me, I tried everything else first, but removing the alternator really makes the job easier..

Reposting this: Has anyone ever replaced this pressure hose with banjo bolt at the top of the power steering pump without removing the pump?

I am in the process of replacing the accumulator/pressure regulator to pump hose on my 1990 750iL...Any suggestions on how to start the banjo bolt at the top of the pump? It will go in fine without the washers and hose but doesn't seen to go in far enough to catch threads with all new parts on bolt. Thanks,
