You solved the problem even though my english was braided. My brake lights came on when the key was on because of the problem you mentioned. They would have been all the time on in an American car, but the BMW brake lights don't work with the ignition switch off. That's why I thought it was a function of the switch, but it's really the weak-return problem! Thanks.
