Rainman, I posted this question earlier (accidentally posted as 'Math Man' rather than my real name) and Kevin suggested you could probably help with the answer. I would have emailed you directly but couldn't fine an email address. Thanks in advance! Don

I went to try to get a State Inspection sticker in Dallas, TX and the technician started reving the engine when the car was attached to the sniffer. I stopped him because I remember this was a no-no with my 85 735i. On the E23, the test was done at idle only because of potential damage to the auto transmission. I also remember the testing equipment was aware of this fact and only required the E23 to pass the test at idle.

The (new) machine at this location did not instruct the technician to do an idle only test. I could not take the chance. Did I do the right thing?

Thanks,
Don Foote
