turn the pot, with a screw driver, to either max heat or cold and then line the dial up with the position of the pot. Otherwise, the dial will not operate in the full temp range.

I was puzzled about how to get the thumbwheels out the other day until I realized the center shaft that the thumbwheel rotates on is removable out the top. Just depress the little release clip that is part of the shaft (push it toward the center axis) and the shaft will slide up and out. I used my pocketknife. On mine the center bulb was reddish also. I also need to find a source of the clear bulbs (they solder in). By the way, if you want some real excitement then remove the pushbutton mechanism covers. They unclip innocently enough, but then there are little sliders and a spring that will test your motor skills to get them back in place !!
