Tony:

I had a similar problem. My 1990 735 il, did this three times during the last six months. I would turn the ignition on and there would be no power or response at all. I had to try again until the engine started.

I was, however, driving with a poor battery (7 years old). Since I changed the battery last week, the engine would fire right up on the first shot. I suspect that my ignition problem was not related to the effetiveness of the battery. Since the car hasn't acted up yet, except a coolant hose that leaked two days ago (already fix, thanks to warranty), why bother fixing something that is working properly! On a final note, you are not the only one with this problem.

Good luck with the fixing.

Gentlemen I own a 1989 750iL with 150k on it. This morning when I turned the ignition swithch on found that only the drivers side bank was working also the instrument cluster was dead, check engine light on, brake light on. After checking the Bentley found the the one thing in common with all the above simptoms was the ignition switch. After much jiggling the car started working as it should. Even though the switch is flaky it should gety me by until I get a new one. My Question is this, has anybody else had the same thing happen to them. If not maybe my troubleshooting will help somebody else on this board.

Regards
Tony V.
