This past Saturday, while my Dad was visiting for Easter week, he helped remove the aftermarket radio/CD player and installed the OEM radio/cassette I bought from ebay, for $6.50. I've always hated the looks of the aftermarket Kenwood Cd player. I been searching ebay for a while for the same radio that was originally in the 88 735i. The original owner's manual for the radio was still in the glovebox so I knew which unit to buy. I purchased an OEM unit about two months ago. The seller didn't know if it worked but he did have the code. What the hell. I'll lose $12.00 including shipping. I got the radio and pulled the Kenwood to realize that the original connectors were missing. To make a long search short, I purchased another OEM radio from ebay with connectors. I paid $10 plus $12 shipping for this unit. Once again the seller couldn't verify if the radio worked and he had no code to boot. All I wanted were the connectors anyway. There was a difference between the two identical units. The second one had the protruding rod in the back that supports the radio in the dash. The first unit didn't have this feature that was needed to fit in my car. I then installed the rod on the unit with the code. After successfully installing the radio with the code and verifying it works, removed it and installed the unit that had no code to find out it powers up and static/hum comes through the speakers. I assume it will work if I get the code which I plan to do. David Voehinger was also kind enough to send me old connectors from the radio he just removed.
Thanks,
