I've got an '88 750iL and I did not have much of a problem. I found it easier to get access with the air box off, which is fairly easy to do. As I remember, I used a fairly short handled wrench and had to make lots of small movements, sometimes flipping the wrench over each time. It would probably have been easier if I had a crow's foot wrench.
