As you know I've been having the same Check Control display "Glow" as well. I solved mine by the radical move of replacing the cluster. As you say, the glow usually comes on after about 5 seconds from ignition off. On mine, it coincided with the fuel gauge giving a quick blip. These would indicate a component within the cluster becoming active, giving a small pulse that blipped the fuel gauge and then illuminated the c/c backlight bulbs until the next time the ignition is switched on. The quickest & easiest fix is to replace the cluster, but obviously not as easy as it was for me, as I had a spare. The other option is to start replacing components within the cluster until you remedy it. Very time consuming and a pain in the backside. Ideally, a circuit diagram would be useful, so you could at least pinpoint the power supply area, as I'm sure this is where the problem lies. You could try replacing all the remaining caps, and also the voltage regulator(s), if there indeed are any, I suspect there would be. I still have my old "problem" cluster, and will continue to try and fix the problem, as & when I have time. If I hit on the cure, I'll let you know. I may try to isolate the power area of the circuit too, seeing as I can pull the unit apart without having to use it for the car now. I did try and power the thing up externally, using the Bentley wiring diagrams, but couldn't get it to fire up. I'll keep trying though. Just to check so that we're tackling the same designs here, do your clusters have the group of five caps in the top right of the pcb when apart. My "replacement" cluster is the revised design with a different layout. Good Luck. Paul.
