Sounds like the 5VCON line switching transistor is kaput - leaking all the time. I'll email you the plan I've got for the E34 cluster I've got - check out around the 7805 regulator, R132, R131 and T21... it shouldn't be hard to track on the board - find the 7805 - a large transistor - and trace the track to T21.

Good luck...

Well folks I'm about to jump off a cliff. I installed a new ignition switch today that I thought might be the root cause of the trip OD restting, irregular chiming, OBC light glow etc. Also have had the five typical caps replaced. While sitting in the garage observing the cluster while I started the up a few time the cluster starts to get bonkers on me. The fuel, economy, tach and temp gage freeze at a an incorrect reading. After a five second delay when the car is shut down the OBC starts to glow and then the gages go back to the rest position. I disconnected the battery for a minute and the gage go back to normal but the oBC glows. After driving a friend's brand new Avalon yesterday it is looking like I may be future Avalon owner. I am getting tored of this shit. Sorry to rant but I am tired of it.
