with the dealer at this point..a marginal condition is hard to prove and reproduce...may..
not certainly..but may be influenced by the dirty
trans bath. You only purged about 1/3 of all your
trans fluid when you drained it..much still in
the cooler and torque converter. I would drive
it for a week then dump it again. The slippery
slope on a neglected trans is introducing fresh
fluid with high detergency which can liberate
deposits from the valve body and plug it..worse
case causing trans failure. To avoid this..go
slow...I would purge fluid every week or so for
the next two or three weeks..then I would change
the filter inside the trans...drop the pan.
Shifting may be fine. I am not convinced your
hesitation is your trans...the M-30 if not tuned
properly is prone to have a bit of a stumble off
idle.
Good Luck,

Ohhhhh s**t!!
Have had my "cream puff" of a 1991 735Il for a week now. All seems great except ....
On 2 or 3 ocassions I have noticed a kick or stumble from the trans. Usually when moving about 40 MPH with minimal throttle. The first time or two I figured it was simply at a speed right between shift points and the trans was hunting for the right gear. Now I am not as certain because ....
This evening I decided to drain & change the trans fluid. I removed the plug and thought, "Wait a minute, did I remove the engine oil drain plug by mistake". The trans fluid was a deep, dark brown, sort of like used motor oil.
Now, the car does have a 1,000 mile powertrain warranty from Mercedes dealer. How much of a stink do I make over this? Since trans still seems to function properly are the obligated to do anything? (I did keep the brown trans fluid in a large jar).
Mike I.
