Subject: [V8] Alternator repair
I took my 85 VW Jetta to StartMart in the Seattle area a few years ago =
for a starter replace/rebuild. They did the following:
1.Charged me $105 more than they quoted because it was "hard" to get the =
starter out.
2. Didn't replace a heat shield (which I noticed the next day, due to =
some rattling, the shield bracket) over the starter which caused =
premature failure (6 mos) of the "new" starter.
3. Would not replace the heat shield that they admitted they didn't put =
back on but didn't have any longer, they said that they would but I gave =
up after taking my car back there 4 times
4. Would not compensate me for the shield or the premature failure, nor =
the $105
5. StartMart has no corporate headquarters that I could find, so there =
was no way for me to chase any thing down.
I would NOT take my car there UNLESS it was the last place on earth.
FWIW, my $.02
