Not to get off track but my 94 740il does exactly the same thing. Rough bone cold idle, smooths out after warmup. Flickering check engine lightthat goes out with a fer revs. When it's cold out it will light the check engine after it's warmed up on a whim. I've found that if the light is reset the car runs normally. Runs rough into the shop, hook it up to the box to read the codes and reset them and it runs fine. the tranny problem is the same as well.

If it is the intake manifold as some have suggested i'll be amazed. I did have a dealer locally suggest them.
Anyone have any other ideas?
