On my 1990, 735il the battery is under the rear seat (passenger side). I think that's where yours is located as well. You will need to pull the rear seat out. They are retained by two metal clips around half way on each side of the seat (about 12-15 inches from the door). You'll have to grab it there and pull upwards (use a little force). Once it's unclipped, pull it forward towards the front seat, and you can remove it easily. Slides back the same way. On the driver side you will have a fuse box. Passenger side would be the battery. The cover is retained by three screws. They are probably finger tight. Undo them and remove the battery cover. Et voila, your battery!

PS: Before you disconnect your battery, make sure you have the code for the radio (if you still have the stock radio). Otherwise radio will not work. You will have to re-enter the code. Battery is about $ 114 tax inc. @ Canadian Tire. (Group 49 is the one I replaced on mine). There is a group number on your as well. Good luck.
