You are the best. Finally I was able to reach the nut, and I saw that yes, you can only use e grip wrench or a pipe wrench.

Now you said clockwise. When I am in the car, then clockwise would be anti-clockwise, or clockwise would be clockwise when you look from the side of the steering wheel.
I could hold the spline shaft with one hand, and move the wheel, and yes, that is the point where the play is.

No it was hard to move, you can't use a socket because of the type of nut it is. I had to struggle to get it move about 1 and 1/2 way around. but that was enought to feel a major improvement...
