With a dead battery, you will need to apply power to move the rear seat. An easy way to apply is through the power point in the engine area. Look at this picture: http://sidney.vonl.com/my-91-750il/outside-25.jpg

Notice the red "Batt +" in lower right corner. Remove this cover and apply power via charger or jumper cables, then move seat forward as per Q's instruction.
