If the system is very low of refrigerant(a lot of bubbles in the sight glass would prove this) then the compressor will not engage. It's a safety thing so you don't burn out the compressor. On the 750, the sight glass is located on the pass side next to the e-box, and it is under a plastic shield held on by 2 big plastic screws.
New problem on my 1991 735iL. Sometimes (not all the time) when the A/C button is depressed, the light comes on but the compressor does not engage. When it does engage, A/C is nice and cold. Is this a problem with the switch itself, the clutch or the compressor?
