hi guys, i have an ' 88 735i and about every 300 miles or so the car begins to idle erratically,just little revs between 800 1000 rpm for period at a time , say 10 minutes and then it gets stable again. While this happening, the " check engine " light also flickers slightly as though it wants to light up but doen't stay on permanently. All this happens usually at stop signs. I get frustrated and accelerate hard from the stop and then the "check engine light will stay on till I reduce my speed to about 50 mph or the revs drop to about 2500rpm. My O2 sensor is new. I have replaced my "MASS AIR FLOW METER " I have used "techron" fuel system cleaner , and when I use the on board engine diagnosis system , the code is 4-4-4-4 (ok, I guess ) . Then at some point ( a few weeks later, the car will stall without warning . I will restart the car and it will pretty much stutter and shake and at this point will not have throttle response. I leave the battery disconnected for about 2 hours and the car is fine again for another 300-500 miles , then........
