Not the usual door lock problem 94 740il (archive)

The drivers door lock works fine to lock the car but it won't open. It works fine from the pass side of the car, but not the drivers. I've had the car 2 months and didn't know it. I always use the remote! Short of having the wife use her key every time how hard is it to get to the key mechanics in the door. Could I luck out and it just be a loose wire?
