In Reply to: Should I flush trans ? Recommendations? posted by Mark Petry on April 30, 2002 at 16:28:32:

If you look back in the archives, you'll find that this topic comes up about once a month. It's a religious subject. There are those who feel passionately on both sides of the issue. Personally I am of the "flush it, change it often with good quality non-synthetic ATF" perssuasion. I'm sure you'll get a post from somone who has found religion in synthetics (you'll find both the redline, amsoil and mobil 1 factions alive and well on the board) and yet another who has sworn off flushing as the root of all transmission trouble. I'm afraid that at the end of the day you'll have to decided which non-scientific treatment of transmissions you believe and follow it faithfully ;-)

Folks

My mechanic, Keith (who works on the Lamborghinis and Mercedes 300SLs owned by the hoity toity of bainbridge island) says that he has a new tranny flush machine and he wants to give Stella (my 90 750iL) a transfusion.

This is not a power flush machine in the conventional sense, it connects to the tranny cooler line and he pushes 16 quarts into the tranny as it flushes out the old stuff - normally I have him drain 3 quarts and refill with every other oil change. You can't get the ~12 qts in the torque converter.

Any recommendations / experiences with this technique ? Should I do it ? Should he use AMSOIL synthetic fluid, or Dexron?

thanks in advance
