Thanks for the info. Since your transmission did not have a green sticker on it, did the dealer imply that having the green sticker meant that it was a lifetime fill? Mine (530iA) does have the green sticker and I was told by my dealer that it was the lifetime fill fluid. However, after much digging into the matter, I emailed the transmission manufacturer (ZF) and gave them the model and serial numbers listed on the tag on the side of my transmission. One of their guys emailed me back that the the correct fluid for my particular transmission was, indeed, DEXRON II (or DEXRON III, which has superseded DEXRON II). If you are interested, you can probably email him and definitively find out for yourself. His name is Reus Dieter and his email address is:
: Confused about which is the proper fluid for your 94 E34. I asked at the parts counter and was told erroneously that it required the lifetime fill synthetic. After reading info on this site I press the parts counter guy and told him i did not have the elusive sticker on my tranny and It was not specific in the owners manual.I to have read the Bemtley manual where it specifies Dextron. After pressing even harder I was directed to the shop foreman's office.Well to make this long story longer,I happened to speak to Bill a service tech and he remembered they had just recently received a bulletin which clearly identified which models used which fluid. We search the tech bulletin manuals in the foremans office and lo and behold there the bulletin said in plain black and white 3/93 thru 5/95(I think) DEXTRON III. So if in doubt and your dealer is trying to stick you with the higher priced synthetic ask him to look it up.If he's unwilling/can't find it, feel free to contact Advantage BMW, Houston,TX. Ask for shop foreman, if he cant find it, ask for Bill. Proof at last!
