It is on the passenger's side of the block, approximately below the second cylinder from the front of the car. It is just above the block coolant drain plug, which I spotted first and is a good locator item to use. You have to get the mirror angled up in such a position that you can look up between the headers. I illuminated the area by shining my flashlight on the mirror, which redirected the light upwards. Also, you have to be able to decipher the mirror image of the code, since you are looking at it from a mirror. It only took about 5 minutes to locate and decipher the code. Again, first locate the coolant drain plug - it looks like a hexagonal bolt head, maybe about 5/8" in diameter - the code is above this bolt. Also, the code numbers stick out from the block (were cast this way), as opposed to appearing stamped inwards into the block. Hope this helps.
: Which side of the block when looking from the radiator and is it at the front or the rear - any further hints ??
: : I read the codes off of mine from under the hood (94 530ia) with a flashlight and one of those little extension round mirrors that can swivel on the end. I could only make our the last 3 digits (970) but this was enough to confirm that mine was a Nikasil block.
